Morning Coffee Reading for August 12, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading for today:
  • First, ICYMI, my Twitter trending topics analysis of last nights debate:
Sunshine State Sarah | Twitter Analysis of the Ames Debate
RedState | The Horserace for August 12, 2011
RedState | Presidential Primary Priorities - UPDATED
  • The hands-down, most blazingly stupid, #headdesk moment of the debate was when Byron York asked Michele Bachmann whether wives should be submissive to their husbands.
Gateway Pundit | At GOP Debate Michele Bachmann Asked Whether Wives Should Be Submissive

Love her or hate her, @MicheleBachmann CLEARLY has her own mind & own opinions. Disrespectful. #amesdebateFri Aug 12 02:31:16 via UberSocial for BlackBerry

NOT A DARN ONE of the GOP candidates are running to be minister. Enough with the religious questions. #amesdebateFri Aug 12 02:33:04 via UberSocial for BlackBerry

Dear @FoxNews: Asking about a candidate's religion isn't going to put people back to work. #GOPDebate #AmesDebateFri Aug 12 02:29:59 via web
  • The Democrats don't want to admit it, but voter fraud really does happen. (Hey, how about instead of whining that asking for ID is racist, we help people get IDs? How the heck can you get a job without an ID, anyway? In fact, I'm fairly sure you can't even get welfare without an ID. Seriously.)

  • Our Golfer-in-Chief, Barack Obama, gave us all another reminder that he not only has no clue how the military works, he neither respects it as an institution nor understands the sacrifices our soldiers make. Read this great post by Jimmy Bise, with an excellent summary and lots of relevant links to the White House's latest slap in the face to our troops:

  • Ashley Sewell (@TXTrendyChick) had a great interview with Florida Senate candidate Adam Hasner on her radio show a week ago. Here's the podcast:

...Many political experts agree that a candidate like Rubio, a party star with potential crossover appeal, doesn’t come around very often, especially in back-to-back election cycles.
“But Adam Hasner was his majority leader,” says Florida GOP strategist Brett Doster. “He was a spokesman for Rubio consistently.”
Sarah Rumpf, an Orlando lawyer who helped organize for Rubio early in his campaign, argues that while Hasner may not be Rubio, he has his own appeal. “There’s only one Marco Rubio, and that’s OK, that’s fine. But Adam Hasner is a tough conservative in his own right. Hasner was Rubio’s teammate.”
...“If there is such a thing as a 2,000-pound block to tie around your ankle, it would be Charlie Crist,” says Doster. “That’s not saying that burden is completely insurmountable. But Republicans have not forgotten Charlie Crist; it has been too soon.”
Rumpf agrees. “Who do I want to send to the Senate? Charlie Crist’s teammate or Marco Rubio’s teammate?”
  • Stupid liberal nonsense of the week: there's an online petition saying that Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie should get married. Come on, people. Sesame Street is for preschoolers. No need for complicated social issues.
Hot Air | Hey, isn't it about time Bert and Ernie got gay-married?
And here's the official Sesame Street Workshop statement on the controversy (well said, IMHO):
Bert and Ernie are best friends.  They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.

Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.
  • Here's a cool story about a group in Germany using a clever way to reach out to neo-Nazis and encourage them to leave that lifestyle:
