Conservative vs. Liberal Ideology on Display in DC

I visited Washington DC this week for Americans for Prosperity Foundation's Defending the American Dream Summit. This week's events were an amazing contrast in conservative versus liberal activist strategies:

On our side, AFP Foundation lined up lots of great speakers, all of whom shared a message of individuals taking responsibility, educating ourselves on the issues and candidates, making up our minds, and then getting involved. My favorites were Herman Cain, Rudy Giuliani, Judge Napolitano, and Dinesh D'Souza. I wasn't close enough to get good video but others did and you can find them on YouTube. AFP has promised to post the videos in the next day or so as well. There was also an amazing selection of breakout sessions, as usual. Summit attendees included conservative activists and tea party organizers from around the country, and there was a collective mood of optimism that, despite the very serious problems facing our country, enough people were paying attention and working hard to, well, defend the American dream for generations to come.

Now, contrast that with the literal assault on our event by the Occupy DC crowd. We had a crowd of protesters outside the convention center, who were actually beating on the doors and trying to break into the event. They were loud, angry, yelling obscenities, and made it impossible to exit from that side of the building. Several people who were attending the summit got caught up in the mob when they first arrived, and fell down the stairs. There were also roving groups of protesters circling the Convention Center, yelling chants and standing in the roads and blocking traffic.

Here are two videos showing the protesters outside the doors and the women who got knocked down the stairs:

Note how the protesters keep on chanting and are completely uninterested in helping the injured. Classy bunch. I have to say I was frustrated with the inaction by the police as well. They did keep the crowd from storming into the Convention Center, but did not seem to be willing to do anything proactive. I'm also fairly sure that it isn't legal to just stand in the street and block traffic, but the police didn't even try and ask them to get out of the street.

Here's more from The Daily Caller:

The crowd was especially vicious to that reporter, Michelle Fields. I walked by when the protesters were blocking that intersection near the Convention Center and yelling at her. One guy kept screeching like a rooster and getting in her face. It was definitely a very hostile, scary environment. Here's McCain's interview with Fields about her experience.

  1. If this does not scare the HECK out of 80% of this country....we are done.

  2. The proofreader botched the "our our" in the first sentence of the second paragraph. This gives one the impression of haste or carelessness. That O(insert appropriate letters) behave like a gaggle of geese should surprise no one who has dealt with a three year old's temper tantrum. Remember, "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad."

  4. Wonderful people these protesters. I wonder if Obama is still so proud to be associated with them.

  6. I am hardly scared of this bunch of rabble rousers. I don't fear people who have nothing more than intimidation. When pushed I gaurantee I can be most intimidating myself, as I'm sure the 80% who have no use for this bunch can be.

  7. It's quite obvious who really stands up for US. Even the TEA Party didn't act this way when they had their rallies. The occupiers are all owned by the left and funded by the left. I saw many youtube videos showing the groups, SEIU, Acorn, and the unions to name a few. It's funny these occupiers don't the home of Warren Buffet, George Soros and even Jesse Jackson. These are but of few fo the 1%, not to mention all of the entertainers in music, sports, tv, and movies. Nice try occupiers, we also have your number too.

  8. As Ronald Reagan correctly put it: “Governments don't reduce deficits by raising taxes on the people; governments reduce deficits by controlling spending and stimulating new wealth.”

  9. Even listening to the video was giving me a headache. These lazy OWS "protesters" ARE thugs, ARE useless, and ARE typical of the chaos obama adores so much - there's nothing obama likes better than keeping people in turmoil. He would be devastated if the country joined in harmony. I'm not surprised the police are useless . . . they always have a lot of reasons they can't be bothered keeping order. I suspect the police are big obama fans.
