Last week at CPAC, we were shown a trailer for a new documentary about Andrew Breitbart called "Hating Breitbart," which the filmmakers describe as "the story of how one man with a website upended the traditional press and repeatedly found himself the target of a media feeding frenzy."
The film includes footage dating back to 2009, when Breitbart was attending some of the early tea party events, and of course lots of great coverage of his involvement in the crusades against ACORN and the takedown of Anthony "That's 5:45 in Seattle I think" Weiner.
Here's the "safe for work" version of the trailer:

I've had the privilege to spend a little time with Breitbart over the past year at some of the conservative conferences I've attended, and have an immense amount of respect for the man. Here's someone who is constantly subjected to the vilest name-calling and threats of violence against him and his family, but steadfastly continues to question the hypocrisy of the Left and the mainstream media.
Breitbart also does a lot to support other conservative activists, promote their work, share strategies, and encourage new "citizen-journalists" to step forward. Besides the many speeches he gives to conservative groups around the country, he is genuinely interested in meeting and chatting with anyone who is interested in joining the fight. If you ever have the chance to grab a beer with him, I highly recommend it. The man can tell a story like few others.
Last April, I got a review copy of Breitbart's book, "Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save The World!" and got the chance to interview him over the telephone about it. You can read my review of the book and notes from the interview here, but my favorite point came near the end of our conversation, when I asked him about the biased coverage that the mainstream media gives to liberals, and whether he wished conservatives could get any of the same "get out of jail free cards." His answer to my question was just classic, and in my opinion, sums up perfectly what makes Andrew Breitbart tick:

Are we at war? Possibly. It certainly seems that way - just look at the MSM's continued efforts to cover up rapes and other violence at Occupy events, and how they reacted to Breitbart and his colleagues pushing the facts.
One thing I do know for sure, is that if we are at war, I'm glad we have a fighter like Andrew Breitbart on our side.

...[W]hat the Left has stood for, for political correctness, is to try and get those with whom they disagree to shut up:
...the tea party movement, and Sarah Palin, and Michele Bachmann, and Allen West, and all the people who have gone out there against the mainstream media, and [we've] said, "You're gonna call us racist, you're gonna call us 'potential Timothy McVeighs?' F*** you."
War!(For the curious, the uncensored version doesn't mute the "F" word at the end of the trailer. Anyway, I try to keep it PG-13 here, so I embedded the other one.)

The thing is, I like playing by the rules that they're not willing to play [by]...they get away with stuff but I'm willing to play by the rules...I actually like being held to a strict standard, I like the idea that I'm fighting them with my hands tied behind my back, because when I beat them, it makes it all the more fun.For more information about "Hating Breitbart," check out HatingBreitbart.com or follow @HatingBreitbart on Twitter.

I've got Breitbart's book. It was a great read. You're lucky you've gotten to meet him!
ReplyDeleteBreitbart is a hateful person and deserves to be hated like Limbaugh or Coulter. This movie is essentially shooting the messenger. What about the good people on the left who have been victims of the right-wing smear machine? I would love to see their movie.
ReplyDeleteThe left has Michael Moore, Bill Maher, and many more useful idiots to run their propaganda for them. Quit whining, Albert, and go crawl back in your hole.
DeleteAlbert, I'm positive you've never met Andrew Breitbart, so you calling him a "hateful person" is just more silliness from you, but hey, thanks for the extra page views. Keep visiting and reading. Maybe you'll learn something one day.
DeleteXOXO,
Sarah
I wouldn't hold out for Albert learning anything anytime soon.
DeleteSo your standard is that you can't judge somebody until you've met them? Okay, I don't see how that makes one iota of sense. There are a lot of famous people I've never met, I can label them whatever I see fit from their actions or words. Shirley Sherrod has some opinions about him. Ditto for ACORN, the O'keefe videos were fraudulent and he still smeared them.
Deletegreat post! loved your interview with breitbart about his book. I had heard it was good, I'll have to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteFor far too long Conservatives have taken the high road and allowed the Lefists to hijack our country but beginning in 2009 that changed. We are in a war for the future of not only America but Freedom.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Breitbart and countless other patriot bloggers who are taking the fight to the Leftists.
If you are a conservative, start a blog, get on twitter/FB, go to Tea Party rallies and join the fight. We are making a difference and you can see it evidenced in the venom which Leftists spew when they are challenged by people like Breitbart.
Excellent post Sarah!
Thanks! I just checked out your website by the way, and it looks like you're doing some really great research and writing there. keep up the great work. :)
DeleteThey took the high road?
DeleteBreitbart treats progressives like the bedwetters they are. That's why their hatred of him is so visceral. Similarly, prog/loons despise Cain, Palin, Rubio, Bork, Justice Thomas, etc etc ad nauseum because, even tho' all are now or have been the subject of progs' high tech lynching, none of them has cowered, run away, remained quiet. Instead, each has stood his or her ground. That's got to be infuriating to proggies who are used to getting their own way. After all, progs own boot-lick media and only recently have their lies been exposed to a broad cross-section of the public. As an aside, I wonder what it feels like for Jake Tapper, Brian Box-O-Rocks Williams, George Stephanopolous, et al to realize much of the public considers them to be the bad guys now. You can't run cover 24/7 for one of the most corrupt administrations in U.S. history and not expect blowback. May they all go the way of the NYT! Down the sewer together. Good riddance.
