Rubio in new Romney ad: "That's not politics, it's math" [VIDEO]

My Senator, Marco Rubio, is the star of a new Romney campaign ad on the subject of Medicare:

Script:
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan get it. Medicare is going broke.
That’s not politics. It’s math. Anyone who wants to leave Medicare like it is, is for letting it go bankrupt. My mother’s eighty-one and depends on Medicare.
We can save Medicare without changing hers, but only if younger Americans accept that our Medicare will be different than our parents’, when we retire in thirty years. But after all they did for us, isn’t that the least we can do?
Awesome. In a 30 second spot, Rubio manages to boil the Medicare reform argument down to its very essence: if we do nothing, Medicare will go broke.

As Rubio said it, "That's not politics, that's math." Sounds very Paul Ryan-esque, hmmm?

Personally, I agree with Romney, Ryan, and Rubio that we need to preserve programs like Social Security and Medicare. We are a rich country, and I believe very strongly that no one in America should go to bed hungry. Unfortunately, we don't have an endless supply of money, and more and more seniors are retiring every day who depend on these programs.

If we want to continue to be able to provide this social safety net to the people who need it the most, we have no choice but to make changes in how they are currently structured. Maybe we'll have to gradually raise the retirement age. Maybe it will require means testing.

Regardless, the point - the completely valid point - that the Republicans keep trying to make this election cycle is that doing nothing is not an option. Period. Don't think the Ryan plan is perfect? Fine. Don't like some of the policy ideas that Romney is discussing in his town hall stops? Fine. Come up with a plan of your own, put it on the table, and let's debate it with the others.

Of course, I realize that I'm asking far too much from the Democrats, who haven't managed to pass a budget since dinosaurs crawled the earth. (OK, that's a slight exaggeration, but it has been a ridiculously long time, hasn't it?)

Count me in on the team that understands Math. Maybe it's time to start a Nerds for Romney coalition? Heh.

In case you missed it, here is the video from Rubio's speech at the Republican National Convention:

I verified with his staff that the Senator memorized the speech and delivered it without teleprompters or even any notes. The guy is just that good. Everyone in Florida who voted for Rubio, give yourself a nice pat on the back right now. Well done. :)
